Computershare has delivered a solid set of full year results for FY26 with the standout feature being a substantial step-up in the final dividend to AUD 65 cents per share, representing a 35.4% increase from the prior year. This aggressive capital return signals management confidence in the company’s cash generation and earnings trajectory while also underlining a shift in capital allocation philosophy toward shareholder distributions.
The underlying operational performance supports this dividend confidence. Revenue reached USD 3.2 billion, up 3.0% on the prior year, with growth evident across all three business divisions. Issuer Services increased revenue by 4.4%, Corporate Trust climbed 5.7%, and Employee Share Plans accelerated to 10.2% growth. More importantly, management EBIT excluding margin income rose 8.3% to USD 447.5 million, with EBIT margins expanding 70 basis points to 18.2%. This margin expansion occurred despite selective investments in new products, technologies and artificial intelligence, suggesting Computershare is achieving productivity gains that offset inflation and reinvestment spending.
The earnings per share result of 145.2 cents represents growth of 7.3% relative to the FY25 outcome of 135.2 cents and comes in ahead of the February 2026 upgrade guidance of around 144 cents. This outperformance stems from a combination of operational leverage and a manageable dividend payout ratio of 58% on a management earnings basis, leaving ample room for capital deployment or further distributions. The balance sheet has also strengthened considerably, with debt leverage declining to just 0.11 times, providing substantial optionality for acquisitions and additional shareholder returns.
Turning to the earnings outlook, management guidance for FY27 indicates management earnings per share of approximately 154 cents, implying growth of around 6% from FY26 levels. Margin income is expected to increase to approximately USD 770 million as average client balances expand to USD 32.8 billion, helping offset the structural headwinds from lower interest rates that compressed margin income by 1.6% in FY26. EBIT excluding margin income is guided to grow approximately 3.5% with full year margins reaching around 19%, suggesting continued operational improvement and the benefits of technology investments flowing through.
For investors, the critical factors to monitor include the realisation of margin income growth in FY27 as client balances expand, execution on the acquisitions referenced in the patient approach to capital deployment, and the ultimate impact of artificial intelligence and digital market evolution on the company’s long-term service offerings. The Wells Fargo synergy achievement one year ahead of schedule demonstrates strong operational execution that should provide confidence in management’s ability to capture value from future strategic initiatives.
