Computershare delivered earnings above guidance in FY26, with management EPS climbing 7% to 145.2 cents per share while the company increased its final dividend to AUD 65 cents, up 35.4% on the prior year. The stronger payout reflects both improved profitability and management confidence in an earnings trajectory that accelerated throughout the financial year. For shareholders, the combination of earnings growth and dividend appreciation underscores the company’s success in executing its strategy despite an earlier rising rate environment.
The operational momentum beneath these results merits attention. Revenue grew 3% to support the earnings lift, driven by increased client paid fees alongside strong event and transactional revenue. Return on invested capital expanded to 36.5%, a 70 basis point improvement, demonstrating tightening capital efficiency. EBIT excluding margin income surged 8%, with margins expanding to over 18% despite ongoing investment in technology and AI capabilities. This combination of growth and margin expansion suggests the company is managing costs carefully while building competitive advantages in automation and artificial intelligence.
Divisional performance was broadly strong across the portfolio. Issuer Services topped USD 1.3 billion in revenue, buoyed by a rebound in shareholder paid fees and a surge in corporate actions volume, particularly a 50% jump in US M&A activity. Corporate Trust broke through the USD 1 billion revenue milestone, with client fees up 9% and margin income benefiting from higher client balances. The division has already achieved its USD 80 million synergy target from the Wells Fargo acquisition a year ahead of schedule. Employee Share Plans was the standout performer, with revenue up 10% and EBIT surging 24%, as equity compensation uptake continues to broaden across major markets.
The margin income result of USD 749 million exceeded expectations, with the company’s interest rate hedging strategy successfully offsetting the impact of rate cuts in key markets during the first half of the year. This demonstrated sophistication in managing the group’s treasury and natural hedges embedded in the business model.
Looking forward, management expects management EPS to grow around 6% in FY27, with further margin income upside from higher client balances. The company reaffirmed its 20% EBIT ex MI margin target and noted scope for additional gains. Acquisition appetite remains active, with management committed to selective pursuits that build scale and capability while investing in technology infrastructure. Investors should monitor the pace of margin expansion toward the target, the execution and competitive impact of AI investments, and whether the company can sustain margin income growth as rate volatility potentially moderates.
