JPMorgan Asset Management has announced estimated cash distributions for six of its equity premium income ETFs listed on the ASX, with payouts ranging from 32.06 cents to 74.58 cents per unit. The announcement covers funds using structured options strategies to generate additional income on equity holdings, representing a significant return of capital to unitholders across a portfolio of diverse equity exposures and hedging approaches.
The distributions span six funds covering different equity exposures and hedging strategies. The highest distributions are from the Nasdaq-focused funds, with the JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income Complex ETF (JPEQ) yielding 74.58 cents per unit and its hedged equivalent (JPHQ) paying 68.60 cents. The global equity funds are distributing 32.99 cents (JEGA) and 32.06 cents for the hedged version (JHGA), while the broader equity income funds are paying 36.64 cents (JEPI) and 34.06 cents respectively (JHPI). The variation in distribution levels reflects differences in underlying asset composition and the income generated through premium income strategies, which typically involve writing call options against equity holdings.
The timing for investors to capture these distributions is critical. The ex-date for all distributions is 14 September 2026, meaning investors must have acquired units on or before 13 September to be eligible. The record date follows on 15 September, confirming unit ownership as at close of business. Payments will be made on 13 October 2026, providing nearly a month from the record date to receive capital. JPMorgan notes that these figures are estimates subject to change due to market movements and capital flows, so final amounts may vary when confirmed distributions are announced on 15 September.
For investors seeking to reinvest distributions, JPMorgan offers a Distribution Reinvestment Plan. To participate, unitholders must submit a Change of Distribution Election Form or lodge an electronic election with the Unit Registrar by 5:00 p.m. Sydney time on the record date. Investors should also ensure their bank details are registered with the Share Registrar (MUFG Corporate Markets) if they prefer direct bank payment, as this step must be completed before the record date and can be updated online through the investor centre portal or by telephone on 1800 576 100.
The announcement arrives at a time when income-focused ETFs face ongoing scrutiny from regulators and investors. JPMorgan includes the standard disclaimers that distributions do not represent a guarantee and that unit prices typically fall after distributions are paid to reflect the capital returned. Investors considering these funds should carefully review the Product Disclosure Statement and Target Market Determination documents, particularly given the complexity of the underlying premium income strategies. This announcement is price sensitive and has been flagged as material by the ASX.
