Amcor (ASX: AMC)View stock profile →

Amcor PLC has announced a quarterly ordinary dividend of USD 0.65 per CHESS Depositary Interest (CDI), equivalent to AUD 0.92 for Australian investors. The payment is scheduled for 24 September 2026, with an ex-date of 3 September and a record date of 4 September 2026. This distribution relates to the quarter ended 30 June 2026 and represents the company’s continued commitment to returning cash to shareholders through regular dividend payments.

For Australian CDI holders, the AUD equivalent payment of AUD 0.92 provides certainty on the local currency value at an exchange rate of 1 AUD to 0.7043 USD. Amcor’s currency arrangements default to AUD payments for most CDI holders, with the exception of New Zealand residents who receive payments in NZD. The exchange rate for NZD conversions had not been confirmed at the time of the announcement, with that information to be released by 24 September 2026. This approach simplifies currency management for the majority of Australian investors while maintaining flexibility for cross-Tasman holders.

The dividend reflects Amcor’s operational performance during the June half-year. As a packaging solutions provider serving food, beverage, healthcare, and industrial markets globally, the company’s ability to maintain quarterly dividend distributions signals underlying cash generation and management’s confidence in business stability. The ordinary nature of the distribution, drawn from operating earnings rather than special circumstances, suggests this is part of the company’s regular capital allocation framework.

The CDI structure itself warrants understanding. Amcor issues CDIs on the ASX as one-for-one equivalents to its NYSE-listed shares, allowing Australian investors to hold exposure to the company without directly owning American Depositary Receipts. This arrangement provides local market trading, ASX settlement, and Australian tax reporting while maintaining a single global equity. The dividend announcement specifies the CDI 1:1 FOREIGN EXEMPT NYSE security designation, confirming the standard economic relationship between local and US listings.

Investors should note the timetable carefully. The ex-date of 3 September 2026 marks the cutoff for dividend eligibility, so existing shareholders need to hold the CDI at that date to receive the payment. Those considering selling should factor this date into their trading decisions. The three-week gap between ex-date and payment date allows for settlement and currency conversion processes.

The announcement provides no information on withholding tax rates or franking components, suggesting either nil withholding for Australian shareholders or a lack of franking credits on this distribution. Investors should verify their personal tax treatment with their brokers or tax advisors, particularly where they hold shares in retirement accounts or have cross-border tax considerations.
