BKI Investment Company reported net profit growth of 4.1% to $64.4 million for the financial year ended 30 June 2026, with earnings per share rising to 7.98 cents from 7.67 cents the prior year. The result reflects steady revenue growth and a solid performance from the underlying investment portfolio, though tempered by lower interest income in a falling rate environment.
Total ordinary revenue climbed 2.0% to $70.7 million, driven by higher dividends from core holdings including BHP Group, Commonwealth Bank, Telstra Group, Wesfarmers, and Macquarie Group. Special investment revenue surged 46.9% to $1.7 million, boosted by special dividends from TPG Telecom, ARB Corporation, Wesfarmers, and Smartgroup Corporation. This combination pushed total revenue to $72.4 million, up 2.7% year on year. The operating result after tax, excluding special revenue, grew 3.3% to $62.8 million.
Interest income fell materially from $4.2 million to $2.9 million, reflecting the impact of lower official interest rates and reduced cash holdings throughout the period. This decline was offset by the portfolio’s dividend performance, highlighting the importance of BKI’s exposure to dividend-yielding equities in an environment where cash returns have compressed. The company’s operating expenses remained stable at $2.6 million.
On the capital front, net tangible asset backing per share improved to $2.07 on a pre-tax basis from $1.96, and to $1.88 after tax from $1.79. This enhancement reflects both retained earnings and underlying asset value growth. The dividend narrative is largely positive, with full-year distributions reaching 7.95 cents per share, up from 7.90 cents, comprising an interim dividend of 3.95 cents and a final dividend of 4.00 cents, both fully franked at 30%. However, the board has suspended the Dividend Reinvestment Plan indefinitely, effective immediately, which means shareholders will not be able to reinvest future dividends into additional BKI shares at this time.
The indefinite DRP suspension warrants attention, as it removes a key benefit for long-term holders and may prompt existing participants to reassess their reinvestment strategies. Management has deferred existing DRP elections pending reinstatement, suggesting the suspension is a deliberate policy choice rather than a temporary measure. For income-focused shareholders, the yield on distributions remains competitive, though the loss of reinvestment optionality reduces flexibility.
Investors should monitor the company’s cash position and interest rate environment, as further falls in official rates could pressure earnings if portfolio dividend growth does not accelerate. The timing and conditions around DRP reinstatement will also be worth tracking. This announcement is price sensitive and has been flagged as material by the ASX.
