Web Travel Group has guided for Group Underlying EBITDA between AUD80 and AUD86 million for the first half of 2027, maintaining momentum despite currency headwinds equivalent to approximately 9% drag compared to the prior corresponding period. Alongside the earnings guidance, the company has announced an on-market share buyback program of up to AUD90 million, signaling management confidence in the business and its assessment that the current share price does not appropriately reflect trading performance and cash generation capacity.

The most encouraging element of the update centers on WebBeds margin expansion. The TTV margin is expected to reach approximately 6.7% in 1H27, up from 6.5% in the prior year, extending a pattern of consecutive half-year improvements. This margin progression reflects the payoff from optimization initiatives and investments made during FY26, with particular emphasis on AI-driven initiatives that are generating operating leverage. WebBeds revenue in EUR functional currency is meanwhile tracking for growth of 11-15% over the first half, demonstrating the underlying momentum in the core business despite the significant headwind from Australian dollar strength.

Cash conversion is expected to exceed 100% in 1H27, a metric that deserves particular attention as it indicates the business is converting earnings into actual cash at an accelerating rate, providing genuine fuel for capital returns and debt reduction. This strong cash generation capability underpins the Board’s confidence in funding the buyback while maintaining flexibility for growth investments. The company has also benefited from improved liquidity following its April redemption of the convertible notes, removing a dated capital structure component and providing balance sheet optionality.

The buyback mechanics are straightforward. Shares will be purchased at prices capped at 5% above the 5-day volume weighted average price, using existing cash reserves. The program is expected to commence in August 2026 and can proceed without additional shareholder approval up to the statutory 10% of issued capital threshold. The company retains the right to suspend or terminate the program if market conditions or strategic priorities shift.

Investors should track the trading update to be delivered at the company’s AGM on 27 August 2026 for any updates to the 1H27 guidance and the pace of the buyback execution. The combination of margin expansion, strong cash conversion, and capital returns represents a coherent strategy to drive shareholder value. This announcement is price sensitive and has been flagged as material by the ASX.
