Bapcor Limited’s 2026 AGM materials reveal a company in the early stages of a structured turnaround, with new leadership, a reset strategy, and preliminary evidence that operational initiatives are gaining traction. The appointment of Chris Wilesmith as CEO in January 2026 and Lachlan Edwards as Chair in November 2025 represents a significant leadership transition aimed at restoring performance after a difficult year.
FY26 delivered underlying net profit after tax of $10.8 million on revenue of $1.9 billion, with a statutory loss of $431.6 million driven by non-cash asset impairments. The poor statutory result reflects the scale of challenges Bapcor faced, though management distinguishes between balance-sheet write-downs and operational performance. The company conducted a $200 million equity raise and improved working capital management, reducing net debt to $135 million by 30 June 2026, with a further $19 million reduction to $116 million by the end of September.
The strategic reset identifies four core areas where Bapcor holds competitive advantages: distribution of passenger and light commercial vehicle parts, heavy commercial vehicle parts distribution, retail, and servicing and repair operations. Management is conducting a portfolio review focused on divesting smaller non-core assets. The five operational priorities are team, customer, future-fit positioning, efficiency, and growth, with technology investment as a key enabler across all areas.
Early signals from the first quarter of FY27 suggest the turnaround initiatives are working. Trade parts sales increased 2.5 percent compared with Q1 FY26, with a 1.6 percent like-for-like increase, and Bapcor captured market share. Networks segment sales rose 4.1 percent. Gross margin improved in both Trade and Retail, reflecting the targeted pricing initiatives implemented in the second half of FY26. Cost optimisation activities are progressing across supply chain and non-product procurement. On a constant-currency basis, group like-for-like sales grew 0.5 percent.
Bapcor’s management attributes modest FY27 revenue growth expectations to ongoing impacts from the Middle East conflict and cost-of-living pressures, though the company expects these external conditions to moderate the benefits of its turnaround initiatives. The underlying NPAT for FY27 is expected to be materially weighted toward the second half, suggesting the company anticipates acceleration as the year progresses. Capital expenditure and depreciation and amortisation are expected to remain in line with FY26 levels.
