Aurizon Holdings has released its 2026 annual report, providing shareholders and investors with a comprehensive update on the transport operator’s financial and operational performance. Group EBITDA grew by $148 million or 9 percent to $1,724 million, marking solid progress across Aurizon’s portfolio of rail assets serving Australia’s bulk commodity export markets.

The EBITDA growth was unevenly distributed across Aurizon’s three main operating segments, illustrating the different dynamics affecting each business unit. The Network division, which operates the company’s regulated rail infrastructure, contributed $74 million of the EBITDA growth, representing 8 percent expansion. This increase came from higher regulatory revenue, though gains were partially offset by increased operating costs. The Coal division added a more modest $13 million gain, or 2 percent growth, largely through price indexation of contracts, with unit costs remaining flat and benefiting from net access and fuel advantages.

The standout performer was the Bulk division, where EBITDA surged by $64 million or 38 percent. This substantial increase reflects customer growth and the non-recurrence of prior year provisions for doubtful debts. However, the division faced headwinds from major customer start-up costs and net fuel under-recovery, which constrained what otherwise would have been an even larger gain. Meanwhile, the Other segment decreased by $3 million or 4 percent, primarily due to non-recurrence of legal settlement proceeds from the prior year, partially offset by improved containerised freight contributions.

Total revenue and other income reached $4,194 million, up marginally from $4,167 million in the prior year, while the EBITDA margin expanded to 41.1 percent, reflecting solid operational leverage. The company paid a final dividend of 25.2 cents per share, bringing the total dividend for the year to 21.1 cents. Return on invested capital stood at 9.5 percent, a measure of how efficiently the company deploys shareholder capital. Above Rail Tonnes carried reached 250.5 million, indicating sustained demand for the company’s transport services across its operating network.

Several key dates are now on the investor calendar. The company expects to dispatch hard copies of the annual report to registered shareholders in September 2026. The Notice of Annual General Meeting will be released in early September, with the AGM itself scheduled for 2.00pm Brisbane time on Thursday, 22 October 2026. The meeting will be held both online and in person at Karstels Brisbane in the Brisbane CBD. For investors considering nomination of directors, the deadline for receipt of nominations is 2.00pm on 3 September 2026.
