Aurizon Holdings Limited is an Australian freight rail operator that moves bulk commodities and general freight across the country through four operating segments, being Network, Coal, Bulk, and Other. The Network segment centres on two major rail infrastructure assets, the Central Queensland Coal Network spanning 2,670 kilometres of track and the South Australia and Northern Territory Network covering 2,100 kilometres, which Aurizon operates and manages as regulated infrastructure.
The company transports a broad range of commodities including metallurgical and thermal coal, iron ore, cement, bauxite, alumina, base metals, grain, fertiliser, and dangerous goods, alongside retail essentials, refrigerated goods, vehicles, and machinery. Aurizon also provides network maintenance, supply chain services encompassing rail and road transportation, port services and material handling, and landbridging and containerised freight solutions, serving customers across the mining, metals, industrial, and agricultural sectors. Formerly known as QR National Limited, the company adopted its current name in December 2012 and was incorporated in 2010, with its headquarters in Fortitude Valley, Australia.
