Yancoal Australia Ltd is engaged in the exploration, development, production, and marketing of metallurgical and thermal coal, selling into markets across Australia, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Europe, Israel, Chile, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Bangladesh. The company operates a portfolio of mines spread across New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia, making it one of the more geographically diversified pure-play coal producers on the Australian market.
Its asset base includes majority or full interests in a range of operating mines, among them Moolarben in the Western Coalfields of New South Wales, the Mount Thorley and Warkworth mines and Hunter Valley Operations in the Hunter Valley, Yarrabee and Middlemount in Queensland's Bowen Basin, Ashton and Donaldson in the Upper and broader Hunter Valley, Stratford Duralie in the New South Wales Gloucester Basin, Premier Coal in Collie, and Austar and Cameby Downs across New South Wales and Queensland. Yancoal Australia is a subsidiary of Yankuang Energy Group Company Limited, was incorporated in 2004, and is headquartered in Sydney, Australia.
