ALS (ASX: ALQ) – ALS Files 2025 Annual Report

ALS Limited delivered a record net profit after tax of $381.2 million for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, representing growth of 25.8 percent on the prior year and marking the company’s achievement of its FY27 financial strategy targets a full year ahead of schedule. The result shows the strength of ALS’ diversified testing portfolio and its ability to drive profitability growth despite a mixed geopolitical backdrop that included tariff policy shifts and rising operational costs in key markets.

Underlying revenue expanded 10.7 percent to $3.32 billion, comprising 8.4 percent organic growth supplemented by a 1.9 percent tailwind from foreign exchange movements. The growth reflects sustained demand across the company’s core minerals and environmental testing services, underpinned by elevated commodity prices, accelerating energy transition dynamics, and increased exploration activity from both major mining operators and junior explorers. The Commodities segment, which accounts for roughly 39 percent of group revenue, was the primary driver, with revenue climbing 18.8 percent and earnings before interest and tax expanding 25.9 percent to $381.5 million.

Operating leverage appears to have been a key contributor to the profit expansion. Group operating margin improved 129 basis points to 18.0 percent, with the Commodities segment delivering a particularly impressive 167 basis point margin expansion to 29.5 percent. Within Minerals, the largest business unit, margins expanded 222 basis points to 33.0 percent for the fifth consecutive year above 30 percent, benefiting from both higher sample volumes and improved pricing conditions in the second half of the financial year. Life Sciences, which comprises roughly 61 percent of group revenue, showed more modest performance with revenue growth of 6.0 percent and earnings growth of 10.2 percent, though management notes successful completion of the Nuvisan transformation program delivered meaningful cost savings and margin expansion.

The balance sheet strengthened materially during the period. Net debt leverage fell to 1.5 times from 2.3 times in the prior year, reflecting the benefits of a $367 million equity capital raise completed in June 2025 and robust operating cash flow generation of $674.1 million. The company maintained available liquidity in excess of $580 million, providing flexibility for growth investments and shareholder returns. Management increased the full-year dividend by 10.1 percent to 42.5 cents per share, with a 57 percent payout ratio relative to underlying earnings.

Capital expenditure surged 59.4 percent to $263 million, with approximately 87 percent directed to growth projects including four major hub laboratory expansions in Lima, Sydney, Bangkok, and Prague. These investments are intended to expand capacity in geographies where ALS holds leading market positions. Investors should monitor the execution and ramp of these hub facilities, the trajectory of Environmental segment performance in the Americas where integration challenges with the York acquisition proved more complex than expected, and whether the company can sustain margin gains as Minerals commodity cycles evolve.
