Alurion Resources (ASX: ALU) – September 2026 Quarterly Report Filed

Alurion Resources has transitioned swiftly from its July 2026 IPO listing to active project development, having raised A$50 million and now executing a prefeasibility study on the Amargosa bauxite project in Brazil. The September quarter marks the first operational period for the newly independent company, which was spun out from Brazilian Rare Earths Limited.

The most significant outcome this quarter is independent validation of the project’s logistics chain. Alurion commissioned transport consultant Engimind to assess the viability of hauling bauxite to the Port of Enseada, with results confirming road haulage is feasible at volumes up to 11.5 million tonnes per annum (wet), substantially ahead of the 5.75 Mtpa base case envisioned in the scoping study. This finding potentially unlocks a larger-scale operation, as Alurion trucks would represent less than 1.6% of corridor traffic even at the higher volume. The company is also advancing engineering studies with the port operator to expand capacity to 13.5 Mtpa, providing optionality for growth.

The PFS work program is advancing as planned. Infill drilling and bulk-sample trenching commenced in the Central District, with 203 auger holes and 20 diamond twin holes designed to improve mineral resource confidence ahead of the mid-2027 PFS target. The testing program specifically targets value drivers: processing yields, recovery of critical minerals like ilmenite and zircon, and quantifying refinery performance through Bayer process trials. All of this positions the company to engage with potential offtake partners on concrete product specifications.

Early commercial engagement is showing promise. Within weeks of listing, Alurion received inbound interest from alumina and aluminium producers in China, the Middle East and Brazil, with initial discussions centred on product qualification and potential partnerships. The timing is noteworthy given China’s bauxite import dependence on Guinea, which accounted for nearly 80% of Chinese imports in the January-September 2026 period. Management views the combination of growing seaborne bauxite demand and supply concentration risk as a strategic tailwind for new Atlantic basin sources.

Cash position remains adequate for near-term execution. At quarter end, Alurion held US$28.5 million in liquid reserves, having burned US$2.963 million in operating cash in the September quarter. With exploration and drilling spend expected to remain elevated through 2026 to meet the PFS timeline, the company estimates over 9 quarters of funding available at current cash-burn rates.

Execution risks remain material. The company must complete drilling and trenching work on schedule, secure updated mineral resource estimates, navigate Brazilian permitting and land access, and ultimately demonstrate project economics that support development and financing. The cautionary statement in the announcement notes that no ore reserve has been estimated and there is no certainty that the PFS will support development.

Investors should monitor quarterly updates on drilling progress and resource estimate confidence, the outcome of port expansion engineering, and timing of commercial discussions with potential customers. The road logistics study outcome is positive, but offtake agreements and financing certainty remain the key milestones ahead. This announcement is price sensitive and has been flagged as material by the ASX.
