AUB Group’s FY26 results reveal a sharply diverging picture between reported and underlying performance. The ASX200-listed insurance broker reported a 47% decline in profit from ordinary activities to $96.0 million, with total comprehensive loss of $23.8 million. These figures mask a more resilient underlying business that generated net profit after tax of $224.6 million, suggesting the reported decline stems largely from one-off costs and acquisition-related impacts rather than deterioration in core operations.

The reported profit decline appears substantial, yet the board’s confidence in the business remains evident in its dividend decision. AUB is paying total dividends of 98 cents per share, fully franked at the 30% tax rate, comprising a 27-cent interim dividend already paid in April and a 71-cent final dividend payable in October. This represents no reduction in shareholder returns despite the earnings headwinds, a signal that management views the reported declines as temporary rather than indicative of structural weakness. The gap between underlying NPAT of $224.6 million and reported profit of $96.0 million points to material non-operating impacts. The company explicitly excludes amortisation of customer and servicing contracts, fair value adjustments on consolidation or deconsolidation, impairment charges, and costs associated with strategic change programs from its underlying metric, all of which hit reported earnings but do not necessarily reflect operational cash generation.

Revenue from ordinary activities reached $1.24 billion, providing the foundation for these results across AUB’s diversified geographic footprint. The company’s scale remains formidable, with approximately 7,000 insurance professionals placing over $11 billion in premiums annually across 1.6 million client relationships spanning 640 locations in 17 countries. This structural foundation and global distribution network have enabled AUB to maintain dividend capacity despite what appears to be a year of significant strategic or acquisition-related adjustments.

For investors, the key takeaway is that underlying profitability remains materially stronger than reported figures suggest. The fully franked dividend status confirms the company’s strong Australian tax position and cash generation capability. The record date for the final dividend is 9 September 2026, with payment scheduled for 9 October 2026. Going forward, investors should monitor whether the underlying NPAT trend stabilises and whether the one-off impacts that depressed reported earnings in FY26 are indeed temporary or signal ongoing headwinds in the business. The gap between underlying and reported earnings warrants careful analysis of the drivers of each major adjustment, particularly around impairment charges and customer contract amortisation, to assess whether they reflect normalised operating patterns.
