Australian United Investment Company (ASX: AUI) – AUI Introduces Quarterly Dividend Payments

Australian United Investment Company (ASX: AUI)View stock profile →

Australian United Investment Company Limited (ASX: AUI) has announced a shift to quarterly dividend payments from its current half-yearly cycle, effective from the 2027 financial year. The first quarterly payment will be distributed in December 2026 for the quarter ended 30 September 2026. This structural change represents a refinement to AUI’s capital distribution policy rather than an expansion of total payouts, though it does alter the timing and frequency of distributions to shareholders.

The company has outlined its FY2027 dividend expectations in detail: ordinary dividends totalling 37 cents per share fully franked will be distributed across four quarterly payments instead of two, with an additional special dividend of 8 cents per share fully franked expected in September 2027. The Board anticipates the first three quarterly payments will be 9 cents per share ordinary, with the final payment comprising 10 cents ordinary plus the 8 cent special dividend. All distributions are expected to be fully franked, consistent with AUI’s historical practice.

For investors, the shift to quarterly payments offers practical benefits. Income arrives more frequently, providing better cash flow timing throughout the year and potentially smoother returns across quarters. For those utilising AUI’s Dividend Reinvestment Plan, the change means four reinvestment opportunities per year rather than two, potentially amplifying compounding effects over extended periods. The DRP will continue to operate across all quarterly dividends for participating shareholders.

The announcement carries particular weight given AUI’s dividend track record. The company has paid a dividend every year since listing in 1974 and has maintained or increased dividends per share annually since 1994. A 52-year unbroken dividend history, coupled with a 32-year track record of consecutive growth, shows management’s confidence in the company’s earnings capacity. The Board’s decision to increase payment frequency reflects this confidence and signals that management views the company’s cash generation as robust enough to support more frequent distributions without compromising financial flexibility.

The move does not represent an increase in total expected dividends. Rather, it redistributes the existing 45 cents per share (37 cents ordinary plus 8 cents special) across four payments instead of two. The primary benefit comes from receiving income earlier in some quarters, which may be of particular value for investors with cash flow requirements or those seeking to reinvest distributions more frequently.

Shareholders require no action to receive the quarterly dividends, though those wishing to update their DRP elections can do so via the MUFG Investor Centre or by submitting a DRP Application Form. The company is also encouraging shareholders to provide email addresses to ensure timely receipt of dividend information and other shareholder communications, recognising that more frequent payments will require more frequent communication.
