Beach Energy’s 2026 annual report shows a company managing through a weaker external environment while bringing critical infrastructure online. The Waitsia Gas Plant achieved nameplate capacity of 250 terajoules per day in April, representing the most significant project completion in the company’s history. This facility transforms Beach’s West Coast position and establishes a major piece of export and domestic gas infrastructure for Western Australia, supporting both global LNG markets and local supply constraints.
Financial performance reflected headwinds from flood impacts on Cooper Basin production and lower commodity pricing. Sales revenue fell 10 percent to A$1.8 billion, with underlying earnings after tax declining 21 percent to A$355 million. Underlying EBITDA of A$1.0 billion was down 8 percent year-on-year. Despite this backdrop, Beach executed with discipline, reducing field operating costs by 3 percent while achieving a 7 percent increase in realized gas prices through targeted commercial strategy. This operational execution under pressure shows embedded cost discipline across the portfolio.
Capital allocation stands out in this context. Net debt fell while available liquidity reached A$983 million, and net gearing sat at 10.6 percent, well below the 15 percent target. Rather than chase higher near-term returns, the board prioritized strengthening the balance sheet and funding growth opportunities, reflected in the full-year dividend of 3.0 cents per share, fully franked. Management indicated its clear intent to grow shareholder returns as the financial position strengthens, suggesting the current 3 cps represents a floor rather than a ceiling.
Beach supplied approximately 19 percent of East Coast gas demand over the period, a position gaining relevance as policy debate around domestic gas reservation schemes intensifies. The company has articulated concerns about current policy design, arguing that forced sales do not create new supply. This advocacy reflects confidence in future development opportunity and hints at management’s view of the company’s strategic position in Australia’s energy transition.
The safety record merits emphasis: zero recordable injuries across 1.5 million working hours, the first full financial year without a recordable incident in more than 15 years. This outcome reflects organizational culture and capital investment in safe operations, both factors linking directly to long-term value creation and cost management.

Become an AR or CARInvestors should watch progression of the Moomba Central Optimisation project, which reached final investment decision and promises to unlock production growth and extend asset life. The company also flagged exploration drilling programs across Western Flank and nearshore Otway prospects. Cooper Basin acreage acquired in recent months may provide longer-dated development opportunities. Quarterly production updates and management commentary on capital allocation in response to policy developments will clarify whether the cautious dividend stance shifts as earnings visibility improves.
