Beach Energy’s FY26 results reveal a company navigating near-term volume headwinds while positioning for growth through disciplined capital deployment and a strategic portfolio pivot. Production fell 2 percent to 19.4 million barrels of oil equivalent, while sales volumes declined 7 percent to 22.9 MMboe, driven largely by Cooper Basin flooding impacts and Victoria-Otway field decline compounded by planned maintenance activities.
The revenue decline to 1.8 billion Australian dollars reflected these lower volumes, though the company demonstrated commercial execution through a 7 percent increase in average realised gas prices to 11.5 dollars per gigajoule. Underlying EBITDA fell 8 percent to 1.04 billion dollars, and underlying net profit after tax dropped 21 percent, compressed by higher depreciation following the Waitsia Gas Plant commencement and unfavourable inventory movements related to LNG cargo liftings.
The more constructive element of the results lies in Beach’s operational discipline. Total field operating costs fell 14 percent despite the addition of Waitsia operations, reflecting structural cost improvements that included an 18 percent reduction in operated field costs and a sustained free cash flow breakeven below 30 dollars per barrel of Brent crude. Pre-growth free cash flow of 458 million dollars supported dividend payments while the company executed a strategic refinancing that extended debt maturities and raised an additional 300 million dollar term loan facility.
Management’s capital allocation decisions merit attention. The sale of the VIC/L35 asset for approximately 130 million dollars monetised the Artisan discovery, a non-core acreage, and freed more than 500 million dollars in capital for redirection into higher-margin development projects. This pivot away from offshore gas exposure toward onshore, low-cost developments signals a material shift in the company’s risk profile and return targeting, with a stated goal of development costs below 8 dollars per gigajoule.
The balance sheet strengthened considerably, with total liquidity reaching 983 million dollars and net gearing at 10.6 percent, well below the company’s 15 percent target. This position provides flexibility for the claimed 600 to 700 million dollar capital program in FY27, which includes the Moomba Central Optimisation project, Perth Basin inlet compression, multiple drilling campaigns, and early-stage activities on the nearshore Otway exploration program.

Become an AR or CARFor FY27, management guided production between 19.5 and 23.0 million barrels of oil equivalent, with the step-up contingent on Waitsia plant utilisation and progressive flood recovery. The company declared a fully franked final dividend of 2.0 cents per share, bringing the full-year distribution to 3.0 cents per share. Investors should monitor Waitsia utilisation rates, the Western Flank drilling success rate (which achieved 100 percent success to date), and progress on partnership discussions for the offshore Otway prospects, which management characterises as long-life, high-margin opportunities at scale.
