Brambles Limited reported full-year FY26 underlying profit of US$1,494m, up 4 percent on a statutory basis or 11 percent when adjusting for the impact of significant operational challenges in the United States. The result aligns with management’s revised guidance issued in May and reflects solid underlying business momentum constrained by capacity issues that emerged unexpectedly in the final quarter. Sales revenue reached US$7,043m with the company maintaining its margin expansion trajectory, growing underlying profit margin by 0.6 percentage points to 21.2 percent despite the headwinds.
The critical issue dragging on FY26 results was a convergence of factors that crippled the company’s US pallet repair network in the fourth quarter. Specifically, increased demand ahead of major consumption events, tighter labour markets affecting repair technicians, two subcontractor exits, and planned quality investments that reduced daily repair capacity created a perfect storm. This combination cost Brambles approximately US$90m in earnings during the quarter alone. Management’s response has been aggressive: the company purchased 1.3m additional pallets in 4Q26 and plans 2m more in 1H27, while implementing additional shifts, overtime arrangements and higher service centre rates to stabilise operations. By June 2026, no customer orders were missed, suggesting the acute phase has passed.
Cash generation remains robust with free cash flow before dividends of US$1,048m, down marginally from US$1,095m in FY25 due primarily to the additional pallet purchases and timing of compensation recoveries. The company returned approximately US$1.2 billion to shareholders through dividends and on-market share buy-backs. The final dividend of 23.15 US cents per share was declared at 20 percent franking, bringing the full-year dividend to 46.15 US cents and representing a 64 percent payout ratio.
Management’s medium-term confidence is evident in the strategic investments underway to prevent a recurrence. The company plans approximately 20 percent capacity expansion across its US network by FY28 through new service centres and repair benches, underpinned by automation initiatives and a dedicated Service Centre of the Future programme. These investments are expected to be funded within the existing capital expenditure guidance of US$200m to US$300m annually and will be partially offset by efficiency gains and pricing recovery from 2H27.
For FY27, management guides sales revenue growth of 2 to 4 percent and underlying profit growth of 2 to 6 percent, with the first half expected to be weaker than the second half due to lingering impacts from repair constraints. Free cash flow is expected to range from US$800m to US$950m. The company maintains its investor value proposition of targeting total value creation exceeding 10 percent per year over the medium term and expects the structural cost increases associated with strengthening the network to be fully offset beyond 2H27.

Become an AR or CARInvestors should monitor the progression of US repair capacity normalisation through 1H27, the success of new service centre openings, and whether management can restore service levels while protecting pricing discipline. The company’s ability to execute on automation investments and pass through cost increases to customers will be key to validating the FY28 margin expansion targets.
