Hansen Technologies has announced a structured leadership transition, with Stuart MacDonald taking over as Chief Executive Officer on 19 November 2026, while Andrew Hansen steps into the role of Executive Chair. This succession represents a significant milestone for the ASX-listed software company after more than three decades under Hansen’s leadership. The appointment carries the hallmarks of careful planning rather than crisis management, which should provide some reassurance to investors concerned about continuity at a global operation serving over 600 customers across more than 80 countries.

Andrew Hansen’s tenure as CEO and Managing Director spans more than 30 years, having joined Hansen in 1990 when it was a domestically focused data-management business. Under his leadership, the company completed a highly successful IPO on the ASX in 2000 and transformed into a diversified, global software provider focused on the energy, utilities, communications and media sectors. His track record includes consistent revenue growth, strong profitability and cash generation. For investors, the incoming Executive Chair role preserves Hansen’s involvement in strategic oversight and the company’s active acquisition program, which should mitigate the risk of strategic drift during the leadership transition.

MacDonald arrives at Hansen from TechnologyOne, where he has served as Chief Operating Officer for the past nine years with broad executive accountability across sales, marketing, consulting, research and development, and international operations. His credentials appear particularly relevant to Hansen’s current priorities. At TechnologyOne, he played a central role in transitioning customers from traditional licence models to SaaS arrangements while maintaining profit records and sustained growth. More recently, he has built TechnologyOne’s UK operations as a growth platform and designed their AI strategy, focusing on leveraging competitive advantages in mission-critical enterprise applications for regulated markets.

The Board has adopted an Executive Chair structure specifically to support an orderly transfer of responsibilities to MacDonald while maintaining continuity in strategic oversight and stakeholder engagement. This approach acknowledges the complexity of Hansen’s global operations and its significant customer relationships. Current Chair David Trude will retire from the Board, concluding more than 15 years of service. The transition timeline of three months from announcement to implementation provides adequate runway for knowledge transfer and relationship introductions.

Investors should monitor how MacDonald signals his strategic priorities in the coming months, particularly regarding Hansen’s acquisition strategy and product development roadmap. His background in SaaS transitions and AI strategy may indicate shifts in how Hansen positions itself to customers. The succession becomes effective on 19 November 2026. This announcement is price sensitive and has been flagged as material by the ASX.
