IDP Education delivered FY26 results that met guidance despite a challenging operating environment, with revenue of $795.4 million down 9% and adjusted EBIT of $122.9 million down 7%. The company navigated a significant decline in international student volumes by demonstrating disciplined cost control and pricing power, positioning itself to benefit as global student mobility patterns stabilize.
The headline volume story masks underlying operational strength. Student Placement volumes fell 27% and Language Testing fell 8%, reflecting continued policy headwinds restricting global student mobility. However, IDP achieved yield growth of 11% in Student Placement and 7% in Language Testing, demonstrating the company’s ability to serve higher-value segments and command premium pricing. This yield-driven offset partially insulated earnings from volume declines and showcases IDP’s market leadership and differentiated quality proposition, with student NPS remaining above 70 and over 90% of surveyed students trusting or highly trusting the platform.
The transformation program is delivering tangible results ahead of expectations. IDP achieved a $32 million net reduction in overhead costs, exceeding the $25 million target set at the beginning of the financial year. This was accomplished through a headcount reduction of approximately 1,250 roles, representing 20% of the workforce, alongside rationalization of the IELTS testing venue footprint from roughly 1,500 locations to less than 600 through a transition to third-party delivery models. The company has identified a further $15 million in cost reductions for FY27, weighted toward the second half, suggesting momentum in the transformation program.
The balance sheet strengthened substantially during the period. Net leverage improved from 1.4x to 1.0x, with $341 million in undrawn facilities providing meaningful flexibility. Cash conversion reached 139%, up three percentage points year-on-year, demonstrating improved working capital discipline. The announcement of a $50 million share buyback signals management confidence in intrinsic value and returns the benefit of balance sheet strength to shareholders.
Looking ahead, investors should monitor how IDP executes on diversification strategy and technology investments. The company is expanding into new Student Placement markets such as Malaysia and the UAE, established 13 new IELTS centres in China, and continues developing AI-powered counselling services to lift conversion rates. The Student Essentials division grew average revenue per user by 24%, indicating traction in higher-margin revenue streams outside traditional placement and testing. Success in these initiatives and stabilization of global student volumes will be key drivers of earnings recovery in FY27 and beyond.
