IDP Education reported FY26 results at its annual general meeting, delivering earnings within guidance despite a 27 percent contraction in Student Placement volumes. Revenue reached A$795 million, down 11 percent, while Adjusted EBIT came in at A$122.9 million. The result reflects management’s execution on yield and cost discipline in a market where international student recruitment has contracted more than 50 percent across key destinations over three years.
The earnings outcome demonstrates operational control under stress. Student Placement yield increased 11 percent and IELTS yield climbed 7 percent, offsetting much of the volume decline. More importantly, management exceeded its cost-reduction commitment by delivering A$32 million in net savings against a A$25 million target. This margin protection shows the company has operational levers beyond waiting for market recovery.
The balance sheet has strengthened materially. Net Leverage Ratio compressed from 1.4x to 1.0x, supported by strong cash generation and working capital discipline. This improvement enabled active capital management: A$25 million in dividends paid, a A$50 million share buyback approved and roughly A$11 million executed to date, and a final unfranked dividend of 6.0 cents per share. The buyback signals management confidence in transformation upside.
Last month, IDP rejected an unsolicited takeover proposal, arguing publicly that the offer was opportunistic and undervalued the business, missing future earnings potential and transformation gains. That argument carries credibility given operational progress and improved balance sheet position.
Transformation results are concrete. Phase One delivered the A$32 million cost target and identified further savings for FY27. AI investments are advancing: the AI Assistant operates in 10 countries, captures more than half of unique student profiles, and generates 7 percent more applications than other channels. Student Placement expanded into Malaysia and IELTS launched 25 test centres in China, diversifying revenue and penetrating underpenetrated markets.
For FY27, management reaffirmed Adjusted EBIT guidance of A$95 million to A$115 million. The guidance assumes volume contraction of 20 to 30 percent, though management expects revenue outperformance from profitable growth and mid-single digit yield improvements. Net leverage is expected to remain at or below 1.5x, with a A$15 million cost reduction target signalling continued discipline as structural costs are addressed.

Become an AR or CARThe near-term risk is that international student policy settings remain restrictive, putting downside pressure on volume assumptions. The key question is whether yield momentum persists and whether transformation productivity gains offset further volume declines.
