JPMorgan Asset Management has announced updated distribution amounts for six of its premium income exchange-traded funds listed on the ASX, with payments scheduled for October. The distributions, which vary significantly across the fund range depending on underlying performance and strategy, reflect the income-generating characteristics of these vehicles and provide investors with concrete figures ahead of the critical 15 September record date that determines distribution eligibility.

The highest distributions are generated by the Nasdaq-focused funds, which employ premium income strategies on technology-heavy portfolios. The JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income Complex ETF (JPEQ) will distribute 56.2537 cents per unit, while its hedged counterpart JPHQ offers 53.4435 cents per unit. These significantly exceed the broader equity offerings. The JPMorgan Global Equity Premium Income Complex ETF (JEGA) pays 24.7160 cents per unit, marginally less than the hedged version JHGA at 24.7384 cents. The domestic Australian equity funds provide more conservative distributions, with JEPI delivering 19.2992 cents per unit and JHPI providing 18.5030 cents per unit.

The timeline is critical for prospective investors. The ex-date on 14 September determines when new buyers forfeit the right to this distribution, meaning anyone purchasing on or after that date will not qualify. The record date on 15 September formally establishes the eligible investor register, followed by payment on 13 October. Existing investors should consider the Distribution Reinvestment Plan (DRP), which reinvests distributions automatically at the unit price effective on the payment date. Activating the DRP requires submitting the Change of Distribution Election Form to the unit registrar by 5 p.m. Sydney time on the record date itself, leaving minimal margin for delay.

Premium income funds use options strategies, typically selling covered calls against equity positions, to generate income beyond standard dividends. This structural feature explains the consistent and often substantial distributions. The variation between hedged and unhedged versions reflects currency exposure management and associated hedging costs, which reduce distributions in hedged variants. All distributions should be treated as non-guaranteed, with unit prices typically falling by approximately the distribution amount on the ex-date through mechanical accounting rather than loss of value.

Investors considering these funds should verify that their bank account details are current with MUFG Corporate Markets (AU) Limited, the share registrar, to ensure distributions are processed smoothly. The JPMorgan website provides product disclosure statements and target market determinations. With the record date imminent, decisions require prompt action. This announcement is price-sensitive and has been flagged as material by ASX.
