Lovisa Holdings (ASX: LOV) – Lovisa Files 2026 Annual Report

Lovisa Holdings reported revenue growth of 17.6% to $938.8 million and earnings before interest and tax up 14.1% to $158.2 million for the year ended 28 June 2026, yet the headline numbers mask a critical performance gap. Comparable store sales, which measure productivity in existing locations, grew only 2.0% during the period, falling well short of management’s stated expectations. This divergence between reported growth and underlying store performance sets up a key investor question about the sustainability of Lovisa’s expansion model.

The gap reveals where growth is actually coming from. The company opened 160 new stores while closing 43 underperformers, bringing its global network to 1,136 locations across more than 50 markets. Revenue and earnings expansion is being driven primarily by adding stores rather than improving sales in existing ones. For a fashion retailer pursuing rapid international expansion, this raises legitimate questions about market saturation in mature regions and the productivity of newly entered territories. Management acknowledged in the annual report that comparable store sales fell short of targets and identified digital capability shortfalls and store quality as contributing factors.

Offsetting this weakness, Lovisa demonstrated operational discipline where it could control costs. Gross margin expanded 60 basis points to 82.6%, reflecting tighter management of supply chain processes and inventory levels. Operating cash flow surged 21% to $294.5 million, a strong result that enabled the company to fund its entire global expansion in cash while still returning 100% of net profit to shareholders as dividends of 86 cents per share, up 11.7% year on year. The balance sheet position strengthened with net debt of just $40.3 million against $120 million in committed facilities.

Management’s candour about unfinished work stands out. The chairman explicitly identified digital experience improvements, completion of an ongoing systems upgrade, and further cost reduction as necessary priorities. These areas have reportedly required attention for some time rather than emerging as new problems, which may suggest implementation challenges.

On the strategic front, Lovisa expanded into six new markets during the year including franchise operations in Ghana, Kenya, Reunion, Mauritius, Burkina Faso and Iraq. The rollout of the refreshed Series 5 store concept reached 53 locations with another 28 scheduled for the first half of FY27. This concept features improved piercing studios and digital screens designed to enhance the customer experience and drive productivity.

For investors, the key question is whether Lovisa can reverse weak comparable store sales growth while maintaining expansion momentum and shareholder returns. Watch for trends in FY27 same-store sales, measurable progress on digital initiatives, and how quickly the Series 5 rollout translates to improved store economics. Management’s execution against these stated priorities will determine whether the current growth model remains viable.
