Sonic Healthcare reported FY2026 results showing revenue growth of 13 percent to A$10.9 billion, with net profit rising 17 percent to A$621 million and earnings per share growing 14 percent to 125.6 cents. The company achieved its underlying EBITDA guidance at A$1.9 billion, up 11 percent year-on-year. The outperformance of net profit against revenue growth reflects improved operational leverage and cost discipline across the business.
Organic revenue growth of 5 percent demonstrates solid execution in core markets. Advanced diagnostics led expansion, growing 15 percent at Sonic Genetics and 12 percent at Biovis. Australian pathology benefited from new hospital contracts and specialist referral growth of 7 percent. The company completed its acquisition of German laboratory group LADR in July 2025 and captured more than 40 percent of expected synergies in year one, with further realisation planned over two years. Swiss acquisition integrations are also delivering material margin expansion.
Australia and Germany account for A$2.2 billion and A$2.7 billion in revenue respectively. Australia achieved 5 percent organic growth, though wage remediation costs and upcoming Fair Work Commission decisions on gender undervaluation for pathology staff created headwinds. Germany delivered 5 percent organic growth with smooth LADR integration underway, but faces uncertainty from a proposed GOÄ private fee schedule reform affecting roughly one-third of German revenue. Management notes reform is unlikely before calendar 2028 and is developing mitigation strategies.
The US business is executing its operating review, with organic growth flat after adjusting for a major payor contract loss and practice rationalisation, though advanced diagnostics expanded 16 percent. Management indicates announced initiatives are expected to add A$25-30 million to FY2027 earnings. The UK business showed 17 percent organic growth but remains margin-dilutive due to integration of the Hertfordshire and West Essex NHS contract, which experienced delays from NHS operational factors. Management expects margins to normalise by H2 FY2028.
For FY2027, Sonic guided EBITDA of A$1.95-2.03 billion in constant currency, excluding approximately A$30 million in annual back-office IT transformation costs over three years. This implies mid-point growth around 3-4 percent before currency impacts, reflecting headwinds from Swiss regulatory fee reductions and extended UK integration timing. The company raised the interim dividend 2.3 percent to A$0.45 per share and expects future earnings growth to support its target dividend payout ratio of 70-80 percent of net profit.
