Betmakers Technology Group (ASX: BET) – Betmakers Technology Files Quarterly Presentation

BetMakers Technology Group has delivered a significant step-up in profitability in its Q1 FY27 quarter, with adjusted EBITDA reaching $5.9 million, a 176% improvement from the prior corresponding period. The result signals that the company’s technology-led operating model is delivering the operating leverage that management has been targeting, with a margin expansion of 13.8 percentage points to 23.8% despite the company still being below its stated long-term gross margin goal of 70%.

The performance was underpinned by revenue growth of 16.3% to $24.7 million, achieved while operating expenses actually declined compared to the prior quarter on a constant currency basis. The company noted that revenue growth was driven by its digital customer base, particularly strong commercial momentum from its Apollo platform, alongside contributions from its Global Tote business benefiting from cloud and cost efficiencies. Gross margin expanded 5.2 percentage points to 69.1%, putting the company within touching distance of its 70% target.

Perhaps more notably, BetMakers swung to positive operating cash flow of $2.8 million in the quarter, a significant turnaround from a $1.2 million outflow in the prior corresponding period. The company’s unrestricted cash position stood at $16.0 million, providing a reasonable buffer to continue execution. The quarterly result included a $2 million USD payment to Monmouth Park under the minimum guarantee arrangements, so the underlying cash generation was stronger than the reported figure.

Over the longer term, the company has demonstrated consistent progress against its stated goals. Since FY23, adjusted EBITDA has improved by approximately $51 million, with the trajectory steeper in recent quarters. The revenue growth rate of 16.3% is running ahead of the stated long-term goal of 10% plus per annum, while the adjusted EBITDA margin of 23.8% is approaching the 25% plus target. Management attributes the improvements to a combination of scaling the technology platform and disciplined cost management, including the benefit of capitalised development costs that reduce operating expense in the current period.

Investors will be watching whether the company can sustain these margin improvements as the business scales, particularly as it invests in further technology enhancements and product development. The forward-looking statements contained in the presentation should be considered in light of the risks and uncertainties outlined by the company, including general economic conditions, exchange rate movements, competitive dynamics, and regulatory risks inherent in wagering operations.
