Orezone Gold has released an updated Preliminary Economic Assessment for the Casa Berardi mine in Northwestern Quebec, setting out the economic case for a combined underground and open pit operation across the property’s remaining mineral resources. The updated life-of-mine plan represents management’s view of the project’s development path given current geological understanding and cost assumptions, though as a PEA it remains preliminary in nature and incorporates inferred mineral resources that may not convert to mineable reserves.
The assessment covers both the underground mining of high-grade zones and the development of open pit operations across multiple deposits on the property. Casa Berardi has operated continuously since 2006 and has generated meaningful gold production over that period, providing the company with operational data on mining methods, processing performance, and site infrastructure requirements. The updated plan integrates this operational history with recent drilling and geological interpretation across the broader property package.
The economic analysis presented in the PEA includes sensitivity testing to gold prices and operating cost assumptions, which reflects the key value drivers for the project. The company’s modeling appears to consider various commodity price scenarios and cost structures, allowing investors to assess the project’s sensitivity to changes in gold price and cost inflation. This sensitivity analysis is particularly relevant given the significant movements in gold prices over recent years and the variable cost inflation affecting mining operations globally.
A PEA carries material limitations that investors should weigh carefully. The assessment is based on assumptions about future commodity prices, operating costs, capital requirements, and geological continuity, none of which are guaranteed. The inclusion of inferred mineral resources in the resource estimate introduces additional uncertainty, as these resources have a lower level of geological confidence than measured or indicated resources. There is no certainty that the projected mine plan will be executed as modeled, or that it will generate the economic returns the PEA suggests.
