PointsBet Holdings has filed its FY26 (9-month) results following MIXI’s acquisition of a 66.4% controlling stake through MIXI Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Japanese entertainment giant MIXI Inc. The stake acquisition resulted in board reconstitution and alignment with MIXI’s compliance frameworks including J-SOX standards. The change in financial year end from 30 June to 31 March means FY26 covers only nine months, complicating year-on-year comparisons.
The operational picture shows PointsBet navigating significant headwinds, particularly in its core Australian market. Group revenue declined 1% to $186.6 million, with gross profit falling 6% to $93.6 million. More concerning, normalised EBITDA turned negative, falling $2.0 million to minus $0.8 million from a $1.2 million profit in the prior period. Sports betting net win declined 4% to $178.4 million, though this was offset partially by strong growth in iGaming, which posted 28% net win growth to $23.6 million. The company maintained 298.1k cash active clients, up 1%, suggesting deliberate prioritization of client quality over volume.
Australia’s decline deserves close attention. Revenue fell 4% to $152 million while statutory EBITDA collapsed 30% to $14.2 million. Management attributed the weakness to the National Self-Exclusion Register and deliberate strategic choices to implement compliance settings above industry benchmarks, explicitly targeting high-staking clients with risky behavior patterns. This approach compressed racing turnover, though the company invests in mass market sports where margins continue improving. Gross win margins held steady at 13.3% despite customer-friendly spring racing results, reflecting structural margin improvements in products like Same Game Multis.
Canada provided brighter momentum. Revenue grew 13% to $34.6 million and statutory EBITDA nearly doubled to $2.3 million. iGaming delivered particularly strong results with net win surging 28% alongside margin recovery. The upgraded iGaming platform launched on 28 April 2026, migrating Ontario Casino to Bede Gaming to unlock enhanced promotional capabilities and expanded games library. The company commenced registration in Alberta with a targeted H2 2026 launch.
Operating discipline improved despite revenue decline. Combined marketing and other operating expenses fell $4.4 million or 4%, while capital expenditure of $12.7 million continued funding platform development. The balance sheet shows cash tightness with only $4.7 million in corporate cash, though the company secured $3 million in borrowings from MIXI during the period.
