PointsBet Holdings reported a net loss of $17.3 million for the half-year ended 30 September 2026, a reduction from the $22.2 million loss in the prior comparative period. The improved loss result masks deteriorating underlying operational performance, with revenue declining 16 percent to $112.7 million and normalised EBITDA swinging to a loss of $6.9 million from a $2.9 million profit previously. The company’s total net win, the key operating metric for wagering businesses, fell 17 percent to $122.1 million, driven by softer performance across both Australian and Canadian operations.
The Australian segment, which represents the majority of the group’s activity, experienced a revenue decline of 19 percent to $91.8 million, with net win falling 18 percent to $101.2 million. Management attributed the weakness partly to compliance actions described as proactive strengthening of compliance standards, which drove double-digit turnover and revenue declines in the highest-value client cohort. This reduction in high-value customers reflects stricter enforcement, and signals the company is willing to sacrifice revenue for regulatory positioning. The Canadian operation delivered mixed results, with revenue down 6 percent in Australian dollars to $20.9 million, though management noted the local currency result grew 3 percent. Sports betting turnover in Canada fell 38 percent in Australian dollar terms due to churn among high-staking clients, though this was partially offset by improved gross win margins. The company also migrated its Canadian iGaming platform to Bede Gaming’s platform during the period.
PointsBet’s cash position shows sustained operational strain. The group reported a net operating cash outflow of $8.1 million for the half-year, with receipts from customers of $122.2 million offset by substantially higher payments to suppliers and employees. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $24.8 million at 30 September 2026. The group has drawn down $21 million of the $23 million loan facility provided by its parent entity MIXI Australia at an interest rate of 7.19 percent, with these balances maturing within 12 months. The company’s balance sheet shows net liabilities of $34.8 million, reflecting the borrowings and the classification of player cash balances as current liabilities. Directors assessed the going concern position based on forecast cash flows and noted the parent entity has provided a letter of financial support, underpinning the expectation that the group will meet its obligations over the next 12 months.
The results suggest PointsBet is navigating a period of transition with tighter regulatory compliance taking precedence over revenue growth. Investors should monitor whether the company can stabilise revenue trends and whether the Canadian iGaming migration delivers the anticipated operational improvements. The timing of an increase to the parent loan facility and progress toward external funding options will also be important to track, given the group’s ongoing cash burn and heavy reliance on parent support.
